My mom, in her eighties, went in for a routine cleaning and an upsell was attemped to sell her a treatment plan for plaque at the roots of her teeth. She saw a picture, which showed a tiny little speck. As a result, only x-rays were taken and no cleaning. My mom left the office very upset because the proposed treatment was $1500 and she wasn't sure it was something that was necessary at her age. My mom felt "hotboxed" as the cleaning didn't happen and my mom was escorted to the front desk to sign up for the treatment. The dentist is delightful - my mom likes her very much. She just didn't appreciate the hygentist pitching this treatment and the cleaning didn't happen.
